F70 1er hatch

  • SOP 07/24
  • Not for the US market

F74 2GC

  • SOP 11/24

F78 2GC LWB

  • SOP early 2025
  • China specific model

G42 2er coupe

  • In production until 07/29 with LCI in 04/25
  • 08/22: Worldwide 218i, M240i; US 230ix, M240i. New instrument panel for all models. Options becoming standard: shift paddles, PDC, shadowline trim. M Sport package Pro will become a new option on M240i.
  • 08/24: Carbon roof as an option on M240i/M240ix.
  • Production only at SLP Mexico

G87 M2

  • Production 12/22-07/29
  • Production only at SLP Mexico
  • Same S58 as G80/G82 under the hood, tuned to 455hp. RWD - of course.
  • Will be available with a manual (possibly only for the US) and an automatic. Most options will be the same as G80/G82, and I don't see much of that decontenting that was done with the original F87 compared with F80/F82. Though ceramic brakes seem to be missing, all the drivetrain and suspension things are the same as G82, and even bucket seats and carbon roof will be optional. The wheels will be 19" front and 20" rear, G87 specific design. The first four months of its production will fall into the "M 50th anniversary" period so expect the initial run to become somewhat collectible. And the new dashboard will be standard from day one.
  • G87 M2 Competition will indeed be called "M2 Competition".

U06 2AT

  • Not for the US market
  • Will introduce the TÜ2 generation of B38/B48/B47 engines.
  • In production until 10/30
  • 07/22: 223dx (B47, 48V, 195hp), 225ex (220hp), 230ex (likely still based on B38, 270hp)

Will get the new interface package. No engine changes with the exception of Alpina B3 tune to 490hp.
  • No fully electric models
  • 03/24: likely date for engine refresh (possibly US specific)
  • 07/24: Some kind of a mild cosmetic refresh in 07/24. Iconic Glow kidneys will become available as an option. At the same time, US engines will be brought in line with the new emissions requirements (next year we'll know if that will affect power output).
  • 11/25: In EU, all diesel engines will be brought to EU7 compliance.

G80 M3

  • In production until 06/27
  • M3 CS: production 03/23 - 02/24, 540hp, automatic, xDrive, standard bucket seats, standard new M specific headlights, also lots of carbon things as standard.

G81 M3 Touring

  • Not for the US market
  • Production 11/22-10/27.
  • There will be a single model: Comp xDrive. As expected, it will be in LCI configuration (for instance, the new i4 widescreen dash will be standard). As far as I can see, everything that you can have on a G80, will be available on G81.

  • BEV models: i3 eDrive35L, i3 eDrive40L. Production starts in 03/22

G22/G23 4er

  • In production until 06/28 with LCI in 03/24
  • 03/23: Will get the new interface package
  • 03/26: In EU, all diesel engines will be brought to EU7 compliance.

G82/G83 M4

  • In production until 06/28
  • G82 M4 CSL: production 07/22-02/23. 540hp, RWD, automatic. New wheels: 19"/20" with your choice of regular sport or track-focused tires. M racing bucket seats standard, with regular bucket seats optional. Introducing special new M headlights as an option. Lots of carbon bits. Alcantara steering wheel
  • 3.0 CSL will be produced for just a few months starting 11/22. It will be mostly configured like the M4 CSL but with manual transmission, several options (comfort access, parking sensors, electric seats) deleted, and original forged wheels in 20" front 21" rear sizes. It will not be available in the US.

G26 4GC

  • 07/24: L3 autonomous driving added to select European models.
  • 03/25: i5 models refreshed (unknown what exactly will change).
  • Lineup: heavy emphasis on BEV, with models like i5 eDrive40, i5 xDrive40, and i5 M50. More models will be known later.

  • G73 is the armored version, starting production in 11/23, the only model will be 760i xDrive Protection.
  • Production 07/22-06/29 with LCI in 03/26
  • 03/23: Worldwide and US eDrive50 (450hp).
  • 07/23: Worldwide 740d (295hp), 740ix, i7 M70 (650hp), US 740ix, i7 M70.

G14/G15/G16 8er and F91/F92/F93 M8

  • In production until 10/25 (G15, F91, F92, F93) and 06/26 (G14 and G16)

U11 X1

  • 07/23: worldwide and US X1 M35i xDrive (315hp).
  • The other electric model will be iX1 eDrive20.

U12 X1 China

  • SOP 03/23
  • Intro models: sDrive18Li, sDrive20Li, xDrive20Li.
  • 07/23: iX1 xDrive30L.

U10 X2

  • Production from 11/23 to 10/30
  • Will include the electric iX2, same models as iX1. US may end up getting only xDrive28i and M35i xDrive.

G45 X3

  • SOP 08/24
  • Will be available with all types of drivetrains but will focus on electric motors and hybrids. There will still be X3M (G97).
  • The top level (non full M) ICE model is getting the M50i designation, whether or not it bring any significant power increase is unclear. I strongly doubt it will have over 500hp like the current 50i/M50i models.

G46 X4

  • SOP 12/25
  • Will be available with all types of drivetrains but will focus on electric motors and hybrids. There will still be X4M (G98).

G05 X5/G06 X6/F95 X5M/F96 X6M

  • In production until 07/26 (G05, F95) and 03/28 (G06, F96)
  • LCI in 04/23.
  • G05/G06 models almost the same as now, with X6 sDrive40i dropped at least in the US. Will get the refreshed B57 (non-US), B58 and the new S68 engines: xDrive40i is now 370hp, xDrive50e bumps all the way to 480hp with the powertrain we'll first see in 750e, M50i becomes M60i. M package becomes standard on X6. Ambient Air and Acoustic Glazing will be available; X5 will have the illuminated grill like X6 does now.
  • F95/F96 X5M/X6M LCI is moving to S68 and gets renamed to X5/X6 M Competition (no more Comp option - just one version remains, like we've seen with other M model refreshes). The official output of the gasoline unit will remain at 600hp but since this is a mild hybrid we should expect a small bump in the actual performance.
  • Since M Sport will be standard on the X6 LCI, the words "M Sport" are going to be a part of the full name of the model. Like "X6 xDrive40i M Sport".

G09 XM

  • Production: 12/22-11/27
  • 650hp, with S68 used in a hybrid setup, is the only model that will be offered at intro.
  • 08/23: two models added: XM 50e (powertrain from 750ex) and XM Black Label (powertrain from the original XM tuned to 740hp).
  • Notable standard M equipment: diff, dark blue sport brakes (can choose red or black as options), seats, seat belts, carbon fiber trim. It'll get next level driving assist in mid-2023. Wheel options go from 21" all the way to 23".
  • Known colors: Dravit Grey, Brooklyn Grey, Oxide Grey II, Carbon Black, Marina Bay Blue, Cape York Green.

I20 iX

  • In production until 06/28
  • 03/22: Worldwide M60 (590hp); US xDrive40 and M60. M60 will have 21" wheels, Active Steering and air suspension as standard.
  • Motorway Assistant available from 03/23.

G30 5er - 06/23
F39 X2 - 10/23

G31 5er - 02/24
G32 6GT - 06/24 (US EOP was 06/19)
F40 1er - 06/24
G01 X3 - 07/24
F44 2er - 10/24

G08 X3/iX3 - 04/25
G02 X4 - 11/25
G29 Z4 - 10/25 (LCI SOP 11/22)
G07 X7 - 07/27

General, non-model specific, and engine notes

  • Display Key will be made available for more models starting this fall.
  • Something is happening with the autonomous driving efforts: the "Fully Autonomous Driving" feature no longer has an intro date, and "Personal CoPilot" is now delayed by two years.
  • Euro-specific bit of good news: S58 will be EU7 compliant.
  • There are plans to have a permanent decontenting on lower models' seats: offering lumbar support and backseat width adjustment as an option only for the driver. Likely to begin with MY2023 cars.
  • Current state of availability of the next level driver assist package ("Motorway Assistant"): G70 at intro; G05/G06/G07 from April 2023.
  • BMW is planning to offer the largest battery among all BEVs on the market at 120kWh. It will go into the model that we haven't seen yet, and I'm not yet going to speculate on the car itself.

January 2022

  • i4 xDrive40 will have 400hp from two motors, starting production in 11/22.
  • It is possible that G42 will leave the North American markets in 2027, way before its actual end of production.
  • The G42 situation may or may not be related to the new US emissions standards. I'm seeing the first hints of their effect on the model availability in the US in 2027 and beyond. Right now no further details but I'm sure the picture will gradually become clearer. In any case, this is still 5 years away.

February 2022

  • Small adjustments in the U11 and G70 models to be offered at intro in July: deleted X1 sDrive20i, added xDrive23i, removed "possibly others" from the G70 list.
  • The name of the very special limited release M4 is "M4 GT/H". And, and... there is no more US version of it.
  • An armored 7er last seen in the F03 generation is coming back with G70 in 11/23.
  • For some reason the X7 LCI powered by S68 is now called "X7 M60i" instead of "M50i". The engine output hasn't changed. I can only guess that maybe the mild hybrid component is powerful enough to justify the name change.
  • U10 X2 will be produced between 11/23 and 10/30. It seems the US will only get xDrive28i and M35i xDrive but not the EV (iX2).
  • G70 gets some power output adjustments: i7 xDrive50 has been bumped in power to 535hp, 735d - to 295hp, 735i - to 282hp.

March 2022

  • More clarity for the puzzling renaming of X7 M50i to M60i. This actually applies to all new models with S68 or older models switching from N63 to S68: they will all get "60" instead of previously planned "50". Examples: 750i->760i, X5/X6/X7 M50i->M60i. I am almost certain that the 535hp output I'm seeing for S68 in these cars is just the ICE part, and it will be supplemented by a large addition of boostable power from the electric motor.
  • G05/G06 LCI lineup: xDrive40i gets B58M2 and 370hp; [s]xDrive45e[/s] xDrive50e gets the same powertrain as G70 [s]745e[/s] 750e, bumping the output by almost 100hp from the current version to 480hp; M50i is renamed to M60i as just mentioned.
  • The armored version of G70 uses the G73 model code. There will be only one version of it: 760i.
  • G90 M5 is confirmed to use the same powertrain as G09 XM, though the tune level is unknown.
  • G80 M3 CS appears to have been accelerated from July to March 2023. The powertrain is confirmed to match M4 CSL. However, while M4 CSL is RWD, M3 CS will be AWD.
  • The low tune of the (non-US) B57 is now considered powerful enough to justify name changes, so G70's (likely only) diesel version is now called 740d.
  • And now PHEV models are also being renamed: ?45e models are becoming ?50e (makes perfect sense with the 90hp power bump), and M750ex will be M760ex.

April 2022

  • Gratuitous badge performance tuning continues: the top i5 has been renamed from M50 to M60, the same for i7 - M60 to M70. The single-motor version of i7 will be called eDrive50.
  • Another example of the same stupid game is the fact that the top non-full-M version of G45 X3 is planned to be called M50i. Does anyone really believe it'll have anywhere close to the same performance as the existing N63-powered X5 M50i? These numbers no longer make any sense.
  • Production of G06 X6/F96 X6M has been extended by a year to 03/28 while G07 X7 EOP will be 4 months earlier in 07/27.
  • Something that's been in my data for a while but I missed it: G87 will have bucket seats, even in the US. Manual transmission could be a US-only option.

May 2022

  • Confirmed i7 eDrive50 with 450hp for 03/23.
  • Added X1 xDrive25e with 240hp, also for 03/23.
  • G20, G21, and G28 will get optional Iconic Glow kidneys in 2024 for MY2025.
  • G42 M240i/M240ix will get optional carbon roof, also in 2024.
  • Production of G20 has been extended to 06/27 (07/27 for SLP), G21 - 10/27, G22 and G23 - 06/28. The corresponding M models will also remain in production. This is highly unusual, breaking the traditional 7 year model cycle. I will be looking for more confirmation of this but I think the most plausible explanation is the replacement of the 3/4 series as we know it with Neue Klasse based EVs, as mentioned in recent interviews of BMW top managers.
  • i7 M70 xDrive will produce 650hp.

June 2022

  • The US version of iX1 xDrive30 has been canceled. With that, the only two U11 models to be sold in the US are xDrive28i and M35i xDrive. No hybrids, no EVs.
  • The super expensive handbuilt M4-based hommage car is absolutely definitely going to be called "3.0 CSL" (This is not news, just an independent confirmation of something already reported elsewhere.) It will use the S58 from the manual M3/M4 tuned to 560hp.
  • Right on the heels of G81 intro, another bit of happy news for non-US touring fans: G99 M5 Touring is real. If it doesn't die under a beancounter's knife, it'll start production in 11/24.
  • Adding SOP for G90
  • The primary production plant for Neue Classe cars for the North American market will be SLP. It will start with two models. NA0/NA1 i3 sedan and touring will be successors to G20/G21. NA5 iX3 will be built in parallel with G45 X3 (similar to Mercedes making separate ICE and EV models for the same market segment). All these models will start production in 2027.
  • G05/G06/G07 will be succeeded by G65 X5 and iX5, G66 X6 and iX6, G67 X7 and iX7. These will be CLAR based cars, not Neue Classes, and as such their EV versions will still share the hardware with ICE and hybrid models just like i4 and i7 do today.
  • The entry level XM will use hybrid B58 from G70 750e.
  • G20/G21: Some kind of a mild cosmetic refresh in 07/24. At the same time, US engines will be brought in line with the new emissions requirements (next year we'll know if that will affect power output). In EU, all diesel engines will be brought to EU7 compliance starting 03/25.
  • The first true Level 3 autonomous driving system called "Personal Pilot" will be available on select G6x and G70 models in Europe and China starting in late 2023 on G70 and July 2024 on G6x. I'm not seeing this functionality on US cars yet.
  • Two i5 Touring models are confirmed to be offered in the G61 lineup at intro. (G60/G61/G68 section above has been rearranged for clarity).

July 2022

  • Confirmed names and specs for two more versions of G09 XM: the entry level model will be XM 50e with the same powertrain as the upcoming 750ex, the top model wil be XM Black Label with the powertrain of the intro XM tuned to 740hp. Both start production in 08/23.
  • The new version of the top level transverse B48 (used in FWD M35i cars) will produce 315hp. First appearance in U11 X1 M35i xDrive.
  • Introductory lineup for G60 5er: worldwide 520i (B48, 190hp), 520d (B47, 195hp), 520dx, 530ix (B48, 255hp), i5 eDrive40 (335hp - same as i4), i5 M60 xDrive (590hp - same as iX); US 530i, i5 eDrive40, i5 M60 xDrive. Note that G60 will not introduce any new engines or electric motors.
  • Manual G29 Z4 (original reporting by BMWBlog) is confirmed. Availability from 03/24.
  • Adjustment to G2x timeline: The demise of G20/G21 has been moved to 02/27, while the diesel engine emissions adaptation is now happening in 11/25 instead of 03/25. For G22/G23 that diesel engine change will happen in 03/26.
  • I was wrong in my reporting on G99 when I said it was good news for non-US fans. It is actually good news for everyone. I can confirm the US version is also planned. G61 is still not coming.
  • Known colors for XM: Dravit Grey, Brooklyn Grey, Oxide Grey II, Carbon Black, Marina Bay Blue, Cape York Green.
  • Known colors for G60: Brooklyn Grey, Phytonic Blue, Cape York Green, Black Sapphire, Carbon Black, Alpine White, Mineral White, Frozen Pure Grey; interiors: vegan Smoke White, Black, two other Black with new stitching type, leather Black/Atlas Grey M.
  • Since M Sport will be standard on the X6 LCI, the words "M Sport" are going to be a part of the full name of the model. Like "X6 xDrive40i M Sport". This used to be a joke, not it's reality.
  • Known colors for G87 M2: Black Sapphire, Brooklyn Grey, Zandvoort Blue, Toronto Red; interiors: leather Cognac, alcantara/sensatec Black/Blue stitching, and one new design that will be introduced with this model, available in regular leather or Full Merino interiors. Bucket seats will only be available with one interior type, the full merino.
